Movie Night! — Barnstorming |
Join us for Movie Night! We will be showing a great film documentary named
Barnstorming.The film immerses the
viewer in the adventure, giving them the perspective of a participant. It follows the pilots and the
Dirksens as they prepare for the most exciting day of the year. The pilots gather from around the country
before flying to the farm, while the Dirksens turn their alfalfa field into an airstrip and prepare a picnic
for 200 friends. The film unfolds with ever-increasing anticipation, leading to the annual reunion. The spirit of
the film mirrors the spirit of the event itself. As a story of ordinary people who share one extraordinary
day a year, the film is a pastoral portrait of the rural American Midwest, the lyrical life of antique
airplane pilots, the breathtaking beauty of flight itself, and a celebration of friendship. Its
characters are architects, dairy farmers, consultants, jet pilots, parents, school children and
laborers every day of the year but one. On the day the planes come, they are all kids again.

| Lt. Dan Band Returning To EAA Airventure Oshkosh In 2010 |
A weeklong salute to veterans during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010 will be highlighted by the return of actor Gary Sinise and his “Lt. Dan Band” at AirVenture’s Theater in the Woods. The concert, sponsored by EAA Warbirds of America and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), is scheduled for Friday, July 30.
It’s the second EAA visit for Sinise, best known for his role as Vietnam veteran Lt. Dan Taylor in the classic film “Forrest Gump,” and as star of the hit TV series “CSI: New York.” Sinise also plays bass in The Lt. Dan Band, which made its first, hugely popular appearance at Oshkosh in 2008.
The concert will be the highlight of a series of veteran-focused events that will take place throughout EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010. Further details regarding other events during the week will be announced as they are finalized.

| The Fight For Hangar Homes |
The reason the FAA now prohibits hangar homes next to publicly funded airports is based on noise considerations, but no data exists to back that position, according to ThroughTheFence.org (TTE) which seeks to "stop the FAA insanity." Airports all over the U.S. have so-called "through-the-fence" agreements with adjacent landowners that allows them to taxi their aircraft from their homes to the airport. But the FAA is now officially discouraging the practice as set forth in the most recent Airport Compliance Manual dated Sept. 30, 2009. Join in on the debate here....

The new AOPA Medical Services Program
AOPA believes the health of general aviation depends on the health of our members. Pilots are a hearty breed, but even the heartiest among us can sometimes be grounded for medical issues. That’s why AOPA has created The AOPA Medical Services Program. This new effort has been designed to help pilots stay healthy, keep their medical certificates, and extend their flying years.

Picture of the Week: AVweb's Flying Photography Showcase
Prolific "POTW" submitter Gary Dikkers of Madison, Wisconsin has been bucking for a new AVweb cap for a while, and this timeless photo of some Mustangs parked in the warbird section at EAA AirVenture has earned it for him. We found a great batch of photos waiting for us after the AOPA Summit, quite a few of them showcasing military aircraft, personnel, and classic warbirds in honor of Veterans Day. By the time you see this, the day that commemorates the end of the Great War will have passed into history for another year ? but we hope you'll indulge us a little longer as we salute the men and women of aviation who serve their countries in a special veteran-themed edition of "POTW."
Question of the Week: Too Rare for the Air?
The Commemorative Air Force lost its bid to keep a one-of-a-kind F-82 Twin Mustang when its appeal of an earlier court ruling in favor of the Air Force reclaiming the historic aircraft was rejected. The CAF originally wanted to restore the aircraft to flying condition, which prompts our latest Question. We'd like to know what you think about putting one-of-a-kind historic airplanes into the air.Plus: We previously asked AVweb readers about the proposed legislation to ban laptops and other electronic distractions in the cockpit; click through to see how you responded to last week's Question.
