The Aircraft Partnership Association - Creating Partnerships that Fly |
David Kruger is going to speak to us about aircraft partnerships and his new organization
www.theAPA.com.
While the idea of forming a partnership to reduce the total cost of aircraft ownership is nothing new, until
recently there was no technologically advanced mechanism to match the wants, desires and budgets of active
aviators. In fact until recently, there was no better mechanism than pinning a piece of paper to the bulletin
board at the local FBO. Aviators by nature want to leverage every ounce of advanced technology to make the
aviation experience all that it can be. Using 21st Century technology to identify and locate like-minded
aviators to form private partnerships is merely an extension of the technology that makes the joy of flying more fulfilling.
Partnerships in aviation make perfect fiscal sense. The asset is largely under-utilized because, unlike an automobile,
an aircraft rarely gets used daily. Thus sharing access to it poses no real imposition and offers significant
benefits to the owner(s). Forming private partnerships works for any new, pre-owned or currently owner aircraft
on virtually any budget in any location.
What makes the Aircraft Partnership Association a successful mechanism to connect partners and form
cost-saving partnerships is technology. The APA uses a secure on-line database to match partners on
any level - and it's FREE. Savvy aviators can visit www.TheAPA.com and post their profile in
complete anonymity. Once a profile is posted, other APA Members can search for potential partners
based on search criteria like type of aircraft type desired, budget available, airport location and more.
The system will even send Members an e-mail when a new Member joins nearby. Over 5,000 Members have
already posted profiles and 10,000 are expected by year-end making the database more robust by the day.

| Dean Eiland has a New Website for his RV-9 Project! |
Dean is building an RV-9 from Van's Aircraft and is logging
his building adventures on Kit Log Pro. Dean says “I have been tempted to call my plane the “Phoenix” because it is in part the
resurrection of an RV-7A that went down in 2007. I am using the instrument panel, engine and a few other odds parts off the donor plane. There are some pictures and
description on the web site if you want to learn more.”

| Oshkosh 2009 Wrap-up By Marvin Brott |
Once again the cork is in the bottle for the big event that brings thousands of aviation people to Oshkosh. This AirVenture was good as ever with respect to reviewing new products from the world's biggest trade show, attending interesting forums, looking at an unbelievable variety of airplanes, and watching the overall show. For over ten years I have provided an overview, but now you have the opportunity to live the AirVenture experience vicariously via the internet. So by now I am sure you have seen hundreds of photos, watched the videos and read countless reports. This certainly allows an in-depth look at your specific interest. Therefore there is not a lot more that can be added concerning AirVenture other than what, we as attendees, had in the way of personal experiences. So let me cover some 2009 experiences and some from my past years which drives many of us to attend Oshkosh every year.

| Taking a deep breath By Steve Taylor |
Nearly two months have passed since AirVenture week. In case you ever thought that the grounds fold up and we all go into hibernation after the event, it’s actually a long way from that.
Almost immediately after AirVenture this year, we welcomed about 25,000 Pathfinders youth campers to the grounds for a week. If you thought it was a jammed scene during the fly-in inside Camp Scholler, it was REALLY crazy during that event (shown below), since people aren’t as familiar with the grounds.

The Latest News From AVweb:
Airborne Laser Video Released
Boeing announced that it had successfully shot a stationary truck on the ground with a laser onboard a C-130 flying overhead. Last week video of what happens when airborne laser meets truck was released showing metal sizzling from an area outlined in duct tape on the truck's hood. Boeing earlier said the test had "defeated the vehicle" although it's not clear in the accompanying video what, if any, damage was done besides some melted sheet metal. Still, it represents a milestone in weapons technology which will have the result of making war just a little safer for those caught in the crossfire.
Short Final
Overheard in IFR Magazine's "On the Air"CTAF offers a smorgasbord of irritating communications techniques. Somewhere in California's Central Valley, I heard a pilot repeatedly report, "Turning left, final, runway 20."After what must have been the tenth "left final," a pilot who'd obviously had it replied:"There is no left final; there is no right final ? just final. It's a straight line!"Ralph LundMalpaso, California
